Text: Grímur Lárusson (1926 - 1995). Tune: trad., arr. Bára Grímsdóttir.

In 1964 Bára and her family moved to Reykjavík from the family farm Grímstunga in the north of Iceland. They returned for visits every year, but her father was always homesick. This is one of many poems that he wrote about his home valley of Vatnsdalur; anyone who has been there can easily understand his longing for the place.

English translation

There wakes always in me a longing.
I often dream
of the northern blue mountains,
the beauty of my home.

Summer with sun and warmth
I see and sense clearly.
Breeze carry greetings to
my childhood home.

I long to see Vatnsdalur.
It draws my thoughts.
It is certain I will never have
another place as home.
